The Great Blood Beast: Part 7

Part 7

She waited for hours,
Nothing came.
She combed the beach,
A search in vain.
Nothing could occupy her mind.

Raw emotion ate at her heart.
Fear, desire, pain, and anger,
All in equal parts.
She was torn by this... dream.
She didn't understand what...

"Child, do not fret.
No more harm will come to you."
"Oh, on that I'll bet."
"I cannot lie, you understand.

Now, patience. Answers take time."

She sat, legs crossed.
Her spirit would not quiet.
She focused on the waves,
But her mind began to riot.
She turned around only to see
The mysterious angel with golden eyes
Was gone from the scene.
Her throat tightened
And she cried on her knees.

Am I trapped here?
Why do I know this place?

This place had left a hole in her heart.
She tried to be strong,
But she fell apart.
She screamed at this world
That had taken her away
From a life with limits, with meaning.

She wanted out.
She wanted home.
She thought this was just a dream.
He had said it was more.
Now she's stuck with no open doors.
She thought...

She thought she heard footsteps.

They began to hover.
A thought strayed through her mind.
She held tighter.
Is this a test?
"Of sorts"
Her heart punched her chest.
He read my mind!
"How else are all prayers heard?
Your mind is part spirit
And speaks clear as your tongue.
Luckily, demons are deaf to it."

She kept silent for a moment,
Then asked, no need to think it,
"How are you flying?"
"Wings of course.
They're difficult to see,
At least in this form.
I didn't want to blind you."
But she saw them,
A translucent blue
That sparkled like the creeks below,
Back lit by the sun.

They glided for miles,
Just feet above the trees.
Still he smiles,
It never leaves.
She pondered, curious.
Where are you taking me?
His only answer:
Something you must see.

But this concerned her.
The last time he said that,
She was nearly murdered.
His eyes would not bat.
He was statuesque.
Were it not for the warmth,
The scent of cherry blooms,
The emanation of light...
"I assure you I'm alive."
She smiled.
Still reading my mind?

They approached a beach,
Landed softly,
Violet water within reach.
I know this place.
I... I know that tree.
The fear returned.
"So what's next for me?"

To her chagrin,
He just stood there,
Sporting a sly grin.

"Wait for it."
